Bob Haro's "Master" was a cutting edge freestyle bike that revolutionized the world of BMX. It was one the most iconic models of the 1980s. The Master frame was built around progressive geometry, and featured a bold graphic scheme. This frame was made for the future. The master was the benchmark for innovative design, whether you are riding freestyle or flatland.
Haro Bikes was one of the leading brands in freestyle BMX biking bikes during the 1980s. Riders of the bikes won almost every sport title. These bikes were among the most popular of their era. FREESTYLIN’ Magazine published their first commercial in 1985. However, it wasn't until later that the company produced a series of freestyle bikes that would define a new era in the freestyle scene.
Haro Freestyler and Master are the first two freestyle models. Both models share a common seat mast height and head tube angle. Both bikes share a swaged back triangle. There are some key differences between them.
One important difference is in the form of the fork legs. The fork stander in the first generation was higher up on the fork leg. This allowed fork to fold out of the way and maintain upright riding position.

Later models of the "Master", however, were redesigns. The front gussets were also machined to prevent cracking. These frames were also fitted to more refined chainstays. The non-drive side dropouts on the frames were also offset rather than brazed-on.
Torker BMX in Fullerton made the second-generation USA Haro Master. It looked very much like the original drawing from 1983. Many features were added to the model, including tapered seat stay, swept dropouts, and double-s-bend chain remains that fed into a standing platform at the rear dropout.
Another major change was the introduction at the front of the Master a fully welded Gusset. This not only reduced the chance of cracking but also allowed the Master to have a slight weight advantage.
The highest specification model of all time was the 1986 model. While many of these bikes were based on the 1986 model, the spec was adjusted for the cost of the 1986 frame. Unlike the FST and Sport, the Master did not have a stacked seat mast.
There were three color schemes for the Haro Master. Neon Green was the team issue. Gray and blue were also available. Like the FST, Sport and Haro Master were available in two sizes.

The 86 "Master" was a very collectible bike. These bikes were given to the team riders Ron Wilkerson and Dave Nourie. Some bikes were equipped only with the rear triangle. Other models were available with serial numbers starting from 1985.
When it came time to reissue both frames, Haro decided to make them using the era-correct manufacturing processes. They used locally sourced raw material in this instance.
